The ERA Kit was the very first kit that we moulded. The
original kits were fitted to the 600 or so Mini ERA Turbos that were produced in
1989/90, most of which went to Japan. The kit was very boxy, and until recently
must have ranked as the most popular Mini kit, with kit sales at the very least
outnumbering sales of original cars by 10 to 1. The kit looked very butch, and
the square lines of the kit contrasted perfectly with the soft rounded lines of
the Mini.
The kits are odd in two respects, firstly the kits themselves
have panel joints in very odd places, there are 3 joints in the sideskirts, and
another three in the rear bumper of the original style kit. The Budget kit is
slightly better, and the deluxe kit whilst it loses out on originality because
of the changes to the kit is easier to fit with its one-piece bumpers, skirts,
and arches. Versions are available for the Clubman, Van, Estate, Pickup, Saloon,
with centre or side exit exhausts, and in original, budget, or deluxe versions.
The other respect in which this kit is odd, is that the metal at the rear of the
front arch needs to be modified to enable the bodykit arches to fit since they
fit under the flange.
Rated in the adverts as a two-spanner job this is slightly
more involved to fit than the simple kits because of the panel joints. Wheels
can vary from 5.5 x 13 to 7 x 13, and some 14’s can also be accommodated. The
holes in the front bumper are not fog lights, even though many people fit fogs
here, but are actually air ducts for heater, and air intake. The rear bumper has
a pair of fog light apertures into which small fog lights can be fitted. If you
have trouble sourcing these we can supply them.
