The earlier XJS convertibles, had a luggage box where the seats should have been. Many owners wishing to transport small children on a now-and-then basis have requested rear seat conversions. We have now conducted quite a few of these conversions, which involve removing the box, and replacing it with our own seats. We must be realistic about these conversions - the seats are small and are not designed for long distance travel. They are however ideal for a summer evening drive with the kids. The job is somewhat complicated if the very desirable power hood option is fitted, because this is sited where the seat has to go, and so has to be re-sited to the boot. (This is where we fit them when we convert hardtop XJS's) This involves lengthening the hydraulic pipes, and the electrical wiring, and does cost a little extra. The new seats are covered in leather to match the front seats, which can be reconditioned if they have faded, so that front and rear match perfectly. A simple conversion that adds practicality to the XJS Convertible. The cost of this conversion to a non-power hood car, is £1200.00, plus VAT, and for a power hood car, is £1500.00 plus VAT.
