Repairer Choice
If the work you need done is on the cycle parts of your bike, there's obviously no problem other than the occasional stroppy independent cycle dealer who won't help with a bike not available for supply through dealers. For any electrical repairs it's a different matter though, since the cycle repair trade isn't usually highly experienced with the appropriate knowledge. It may be helpful to point a prospective cycle repairer towards this site and the forthcoming 50cycles repair webpages (when they're published) to see the reaction. Unfair though it might be, that's because I think an independent repairman with web access is probably more likely to have the relevant technical awareness that's needed than an internet averse person.
If you're finding difficulty though, there's an alternative. Since the early days of motor vehicles there's existed a separate Auto Electrical trade and there are Auto Electricians available still in many areas who work on various vehicles including two wheelers. The advantages they have are an awareness of the safety requirements and potential dangers of low voltage, high current systems and batteries, knowledge of the need for their insulation and weatherproofing, and the availablity in stock of connectors and insulating sleeving. Since time is money when repairs are being carried out, auto electrical skills, electrical tools, and some spare parts stock could mean a much quicker, better and possibly less expensive job. As a precaution it would be wise to ask for some indication of probable cost first though.
