THE MUSICAL TUCKSHOP ©

One-day workshops and masterclasses on singing technique and dynamic performance skills.

You love singing and want to know how tuition might help?...
You've always wanted to sing and never dared say?...
You need to prepare for a particular performance?...

THE MUSICAL TUCKSHOP is a lively environment in which to learn about the art and fun of singing under the guidance of experienced tutors.

THE MUSICAL TUCKSHOP generally runs as a one-day workshop in a relaxed atmosphere and an informal setting with two tutors. Typically there are technical discussions and group warm-ups in the morning and a masterclass where students can perform and work on songs and learn by hearing each other in the afternoon.

The day is intense but fun and informative, and is open to anybody who loves to sing.

Tuckshop Christmas Choir

Here seen putting on a Christmas concert with a small ensemble, THE MUSICAL TUCKSHOP was set up by Janet Shell and Louise Tucker to provide a series of graded workshops aimed at promoting good singing technique and imaginative interpretation in a convivial and supportive group environment, suitable for young and inexperienced singers, but equally stimulating for older students and young professional singers. Both are experienced teachers and performers and have had considerable experience in a variety of musical genres. They are now joined by Christopher Goldsack and John Flinders who, whilst also being active musicians, regularly teach at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

We believe that performance in music should be both exciting and rewarding. Singing is the most spontaneous and direct means of musical expression - open to all who care and varied in its appeal. But there is so much more to it than that. Nerves, musical style and technical difficulties all need addressing. Not surprisingly surety in voice production is a major factor in developing confidence.

Many styles of music are embraced, but each tutor has a grounding in classical technique, which we believe to be the safest and most appropriate technique for developing voices.

Here are a few comments:

"Both girls came home in the car on a high, singing all the way!" (parent)

"One thing that impressed me was that they were producing a lovely tone quality at the end of the session without any sign of fatigue in their voices" (parent)

"I was really nervous about the Masterclass, but when we started I just forgot my nerves and wanted to sing. Everyone was really friendly and helpful and it was interesting to see how you could walk onto a platform in so many different ways."

"I loved it and I learnt loads of useful things. I will be drinking a lot of water from now on!"

"I hadn't thought about the words so much before; well I had, but Janet and Louise gave lots of ideas for making the song really come across by the way you use the words."

"The day was more relaxed than I thought and it made singing in front of people much easier. The day was fun too and my friend and I talk about things now when we sing and try and remember to do some of the things you said!"
