LATER STAGES OF RECENT OVERHAUL

• The re-tubing was carried out between Christmas and New Year 2000.

• The tender was completed shortly after.
  

• A private hydraulic test on the boiler was successfully completed during the weekend of 20th October 2001. The inspector was invited to come and carry out test for insurance purposes.

• The boiler passed it's official hydraulic test, witnessed by the appropriate inspectors, on 16th November 2001.

• A warming fire was lit on 23th November 2001.

• The boiler was steamed on 24th November 2001 with a successful testing of the whistle and safety valve.

• The boiler passed its' official steam test in the presence of the appropriate inspectors on Monday 3rd December 2001.

• On Saturday 16th February 2002, a 70 ton crane was used to lift the 21 ton boiler back into its frames. The crane was due to arrive at 10am, so we were surprised to see it arrive at 8. The boiler was lifted and after much adjustment was successfully attached to the ashpan. The boiler was then swung around and the frames moved into position. The boiler was finally lowered with fine adjustment into postion. The task was completed at around 1.30pm.

  Mayflower`s frames and tender were also inspected to allow for mainline running if required.

• Current condition of cab 2/6/2002.

• Loco being moved for work over the pit on Saturday 17th August 2002.
• On Saturday 24th August 2002 we held an engineers/fitters steam test to check that all appropriate seals and joints etc are sound. We were pleased with the results from a successful steam test.
• On Saturday 23rd November 2002, the name plates were fitted for the first time in over thirteen years. The loco was given a good clean before being moved to the carriage shed for painting. Name plates of course being removed first.
• On Saturday 14th December 2002 the final paint work neared completion and the name plates were refitted.

• On Saturday 8th March 2003 Mayflower was weighed and some adjustment made to the axle loading. The brick arch was built on the 1st March.
• On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 2nd, 3rd and 4th April 2003, Mayflower successfully completed 250 miles of running in trials. There were one or two warm bearings that ran in satisfactorily.
• On Saturday 6th April 2003 Mayflower hauled its first fee paying passenger service in 14 years.
