Cappadocia to Egirdir / Eğirdir Boat
© Mark Buckley-Sharp  May-01
A tranquil scene on the lake, although the boat’s name (Y
ıldırım means ‘Thunderbolt’) is hopefully not a warning.
The name of the town, E
ğirdir, is derived from the verb ‘to spin’, and was adopted fairly recently as a pleasanter alternative to the original, Eğridir, meaning ‘it is crooked’.  As the  ğ  is silent, it takes a while to learn to pronouce either name correctly.

The trip shown in this gallery was provided by Argonaut Escapades based in Ürgüp, Cappadocia. Thanks to Sevim, and to our driver, Ismail.
