This is a press release from the Steering Group of Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex

East Ayrshire Council Education Committee on 29th May, 2001 accepted a report recommending that the future management of the ski slope be passed to a community based management committee with direct council funding phased out over a three year period. The Council further agree to assist the development of the management committee to take forward the management of the facility.

Effectively this decision transfers the management of the ski slope to the existing Steering Group which will in due course become the management committee. It is believed that this type of management structure will open up possibilities in respect of lottery and other funding. The Committee consists of representatives from East Ayrshire Council, The Friends of Newmilns Ski Slope, Newmilns Action Group, Newmilns and Greenholm Community Council, Snowsports Scotland (Governing Body) and the local councillor.

The above decision will pass the running of the facility to snowsports enthusiasts and members of the local community. 

The Vision is to develop the site for snowsports including snowboarding and to add value by providing complimentary pursuits Eg. A kick about area, Inline Skating, Skateboarding, Climbing, Mountain Biking etc.

The objective is to retain this valuable asset for the benefit of the local community while at the same time attracting visitors to Newmilns.

The support of the local councilor, Harry Wilson and the Newmilns community of which 1000 signed a  petition supporting the retention of the facility is greatly appreciated as is the continuing support of the Loudoun Valley Trust who articulated the genuine concerns of the future of the Slope to the Council.
