Building a 1/16 Petebult 395

Part 4 :- final assembly & small part fitting construction

SECTION 9 :- final main chassis buld build

It's now time to start putting the remaining chassis parts & cab onto the chassis. I fixed the fuel tanks & fifth wheel on the chassis & allowed to set for a good 24 hrs. The front section of the cab was glued onto the chassis & left to set then the "Sleeper" section was glued next to it. when dry the exhaust stacks & connecting pipes were fitted.

It was now time to start adding all the remaining small parts. All the hand rails had the chrome removed & were sprayed with Halfords "bright copper", as I wanted to add a slight "personal"! feel to the truck. These were glued in place & also the step for the sleeper unit & the door handles.

SECTION 10 :- Air filter & cab small parts

The air filter box was sanded down & painted in the same "bright copper" as the grab rails & fitted to the cab, together with its, air connection pipe. The roof lights & horns were sanded & painted copper, to simulate the bulbs & put "Fluorescent green" at the tip of the lights then the lens fitted over the top.

The next tricky section was the fitting of the wing mirrors. These come in three parts & the best way I found was to scratch off the chrome from where it fits the cab & a small amount of paint from around the mounting hole on the cab, thaen to use a very small amount of superglue put on the bottom mirror fixing & set this in place firmly. Only when this will ot move do you put a bit of superglue on the top fixing & then place the mirror & top fixing in place. If you do this the mirror should not slip or start to fall down of position. You can, like I did, then drip a small drop of liquid glue on the top & bottom fixings to make another bond.

SECTION 11 :- Front grill & bonnet

Now to finish the model by gluing the painted radiator to the bonnet & fixing the lights & details. Is was then just a acse of fitting the bonnet fixing brackets under the front bumber & resting them in the holes in the chassis. The last job was to fit the rather flimsy rear mudguards & there it is all ready to go on display.
