Building a 1/15 Tiger 1

Part 2 :- Base construction& starting the turret

STAGES 6 to 10

Stages 6 & 7 were ommited as I will be using a 2 channel R.C. unit instead of the wired remote system that comes with the kit. All I did was to fit part No.I9 in the hole where the remote wires come out of the rear of the tank (See page 17 of the instructions).

STAGE 8 & 9

I made the wires as intructed by twisting 6 strands of wire that are 120cm in length. I glued parts C3 & C4 together & will fit the wires in them nearer the end of construction so the only job I did in stage 9 was to fit the side skirts.  I did this as I will spray all the chassis & bases first then fit all the smaller parts & wires near the end so they do not get damaged in any way.

STAGE 10

No alterations to the stage apart from not fitting parts C19, D11 & the jack assembly (Parts C9,C20 & D18), which I will fit at the end.

 STAGES 11 & 12

It was a personal choice, but I have decided not to do these two stages now as I will do then when I connect the turret & base to the chassis & it will be easier to see any gaps that might be seen when the base goes on & adjust the angle of the front to reduce it.

STAGE 13 & 14

In stage 13 I only connected the hatch covers as I will be spraying the bases & the mesh might get painted or marked. Take great care when fitting the hinges and only put a small amount of glue on the edge of the hinge so that the hatch arm will move freely As well as this I want to use the gaps in the grill in stage 14 to hold the base parts together.

In stage 14 I fixed the base parts together. You must keep this flat as any bends will show when put it on the chassis.  As well as tape I fixed thin wire through the grill & turret holes and twisted it "Just tight".  If you pull the tape or wire too tight the base will begin to twist.  I left off the tools & headlamps off the chassis as these will be painted & fixed at the end.

STAGE 15

Left this stage to be done at the end bar making the ends for the rope (Parts C3 & C5)

STAGE 16

The only problem with this stage was filler was needed along the length of the gun barrel & then sanded down.
