I will start with the most recently departed. My TVR 400SE. I owned this car from August 1994 through to June 1998 and it was only sold due the fact that work and social commitments meant that in my last year of ownership the car only covered about 1500 miles. It was my second TVR and will not be my last!
My TVR 350i was the first real car I owned. It marked my transition from lightweight high revving machines like the Ginetta to the high capacity V8's I've owned since. OK, by today's standards the 350 may not fare that well but 10 years ago it was top value wind-the-hair entertainment.
During my ownership I took part in several TVR Car Club track days at Brands Hatch and Snetterton and I plan to post some extracts of the notorious video footage! The 350 was sold to make way for the 400 in 1994.
The Ginetta G15 was the fist vehicle I owned that was not a production car. I was eighteen at the time and most of my pals had eurobox tintops. I have vivid recollections of one of my friends who owned a V8 SD1 Rover that regularly received a thumping at the traffic lights at the hands of the 1000cc Ginetta.
Indiscretions.
Now we all make mistakes, the Irish Clan (not a crusader) was actually very quick to around 80mph but admittedly it was also very ugly, despite the fact that it was originally designed by a pair of Lotus engineers responsible for the Europa and the Ford GT40 amongst others. The Crusader, this cars predecessor was to have been the Lotus Elan replacement, but Lotus axed it.
The Matra, a Murena not the better known Bagheera, would have and should have been a very good car. Matra had learned their lesson using baked bean tins for chassis in the Bagheera and blessed the Murena with a fine galvanised example. Unfortunately at the time I did not have the funds to complete this project (I was still a student). The car as pictured is actually an insurance write off as the bonnet, front and rear screens and bumper were all damaged. The cost of replacement injection moulded panels from Matra totalled around £3500, so the car was sold.
