1865

This reproduction riding habit of 1865 is made in blue and green 'Black Watch' tartan wool material (reflecting the age of Queen Victoria at Balmoral, Scotland), from the habit dressmaking patterns available from Side Saddle Lady (P11 and P12). The jacket is decorated military-style (see pictures below), with blue cording around the edges and across the front. It fastens in the front with buttons covered in the same material as the habit, and fancier buttons on either side for the looped cording. It has small pockets with a cording design below. There are also corded designs on the back, together with a peplem. The skirt has a train, and although it is displayed here with a hoop petticoat to show its fullness, it would have been worn with petticoats and trousers beneath.
