Folding safety stirrup
The classic side-saddle makers of Champion and Wilton, Owen and Mayhew produced an emergency safety stirrup to be used if the main stirrup leather came away during a ride. The folding safety stirrup and webbing strap fitted inside a leather wallet which was attached to the side-saddle. It could either be attached to a girth billet, or used for riding astride if buckled to the offside of the saddle. All of the same design, they were individually stamped with the company's name. The stirrup pictured is a Champion and Wilton one.
